CCAS Public Lecture
"Korea-Japan Relationship and East Asian Cooperation"
on Friday, November 25, 2005 4:00pm-6:00pm
at Rinkokan 201, Doshisha University
His Excellency, Mr. Ra Jong-Yil, the Korean Ambassador to Japan
Relations between Korea and Japan used to be seen as “geographically close, but politically distant.” However, changes have been taking place recently. The 2002 Football World Cup was the first World Cup to be held in Asia, and also the first to be co-hosted by two countries. In addition, popular Korean television dramas have helped stimulate a “Korea boom” in Japan. Now, both nations seem to be becoming closer.
The governments of Korea and Japan have designated 2005 as a year of friendship between the two countries. A famous scholar in international politics, His Excellency, Mr. Ra Jong-Yil, the Korean Ambassador to Japan, spoke in this public lecture about the present condition of Korea-Japan ties, and the desired future relationship between the countries.
